New York based award-winning documentary filmmaker, Monica Sharf has a special gift for creating strikingly vivid character-driven portraits of real people.
Her shorts have screened at high profile national and international film festivals including: LA Shorts International Film Festival, Leeds International Film Festival, Melbourne International Film Festival, International Documentary Association Film Festival, Denver International Film Festival, DoubleTake Documentary Film Festival, Black Maria Film Festival and Idyllwild International Film Festival.
Monica’s shorts were also shown on cable television: IFC, WNET/13 Reel New York, as part of HBO's Emmy Award® winning In Memoriam New York City, 9/11/01 and A Year in Focus, on National Geographic.
Sharf's shorts appeared in public venues and museums such as: MoMA; BAM; CBS Spectacular Open Air Shorts Times Square NY; Walker Arts Center, Women with Vision: Restless Age, September 11th: Eyewitnesses, a tribute to New York; The Andy Warhol Museum and Picture Start.
Monica qualified two film shorts for Official Entry to the Academy Awards®.
Her short, Tribute 9.11, was acquired by the Library of Congress. Other awards include: International Women in Film Finishing Prize at the Crystal Awards, LA; Best Documentary, Melbourne International Film Festival; Best Documentary, Long Island Film Festival; Director’s Citation, Black Maria Film Festival; Silver Award, Worldfest/Houston; and Best Inspirational Short Documentary, NYIIFVF, NY.
